Animal Assisted Therapy

Betamarsh Incorporated offers Animal Assisted Therapy to residents residing in their residential programs. Residents have the opportunity to take part in Equine Therapy, Canine Therapy and General Animal Assisted Therapy (which includes work with Pygmy Goats, Cats and Guinea Pigs).
Over the years, Betamarsh has observed that the animals can improve social, emotional and cognitive functioning and is a great tool to combine with therapy. Animals can make people feel safe and loved when they have been deprived of social interaction or hurt by others. In trauma, animals can be especially helpful, when language doesn’t come easily. Since animals don’t communicate with words, they are more easily approachable than a person.
